Straight LinesThis is a beautiful 36 X 36 sofa sized painting titled "Straight Lines", by artist Joey Santiago. With just a couple of chalkboard push pins, this painting is ready to hang and is protected by 2 coats of medium gloss varnish.
The Balance Of Shape and ColorBalance can be achieved with just color values alone. A small amount of color can offset the visual weight of a large area of neutral values. Similarly, a small area of warm color can balance a large area of cool color. That was my intent when creating this piece. Similar to "Windows of Inspiration", rather than to coat the whole canvas in black, I used power colors for my base background instead. For the foreground shapes, I used all metallic colors which includes, silver, bronze, copper, gold, purple, and blue.
Balance through color is one principle that unifies this composition. Although the canvas is filled with 2 tones of black, red, and orange the secondary theme can be seen on the multi-colored shapes. My attention is further drawn to the straight line borders, showing that a small area of warm color can offset a larger area of cool color. Hence the name "Straight Lines".
